2016 Women's Cross Country Roster
Biography
2016 (XC): Appeared in five races for the Gators in 2016…finished 48th at the Speedway Duals on Sept. 15, clocking in with a time of 26:01 in the 5800m race…set a new personal-best in the 6k at the Bronco Invite hosted by Santa Clara at Baylands Park on Oct. 15, she finished 45th out of 167 runners with a time of 24:05.3…at the CCAA Championships on Oct. 22 she took 91st with a time of 25:07.8…a week later she bested that time at the NCAA Division II West Regionals clocking in with a time of 25:07.1 to finish 169th out of 204 runners.
2015 (XC): In her first year competing for the Gators in cross country she appeared in four meets for the Gators…made her cross country debut on Sept. 11 at the Ashe Creek Reserve Invitational where she finished 67th with a time of 18:52.5…set a season-best time in the 6k at the NCAA Division II West Regionals with a time of 24:14.4.
Prior to SF State: Joins the Gators after lettering all four years at Valhalla High School, the native of San Diego ran primarily the middle distances...As a sophomore she was named All-Grossmont League for the 800m where she was the league champion, also qualified for CIF that year in the 400m and 800m posting times of 58.9 in the 400m race and 2:20 in the 800m...In her senior year she advanced to state in the 4x100 and won the coaches award and senior award...also lettered three times in cross country...finished in the top-10 earning all-league honors in cross country and was party of the league champion 4x400 relay team her senior year. Parents are Jorge Castro and Gloria Castro, both parents ran for Cal State Northridge, Jorge was a two-time All-American in cross country.
