SAN RAMON, Calif. – San Francisco State sophomore
Katie Rohrer has been named the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Player of the Week for Feb. 5-11.
"Katie has worked extremely hard all fall to get more consistent with her swing and it is nice to see that hard work paying dividends for her," said Head Coach
Alicia Reid. "It is a great accomplishment for her in just the first week of CCAA play. With such talent in our conference it's never easy to be named CCAA Player of the Week, and hopefully this is just the beginning for Katie."
The Rohnert Park, California product went a stellar .769 (10-of-13) at the plate with ten runs scored and four RBI as the Gators took three-of-four from host Cal State San Marcos in the first CCAA series of the season. Rohrer wrapped up the series going a perfect 3-for-3 for her fifth-straight multi-hit performance as the Gators defeated the Cougars 9-5.
The infielder ranks second in the Conference with a .538 batting average and is tied for second with 11 RBI. Rohrer becomes the first SF State Player of the Week honoree since Kendra Wood took home the award in 2010.
The Gators host their home opener this Friday, Feb. 16 as Cal State San Bernardino comes to the SFSU Softball Field for a doubleheader that begins at noon. The series wraps up on Saturday with another pair of games that start at 11 a.m.
