Holguin named All-CCAA First Team

SAN RAMON, Calif. — Five San Francisco State women's soccer players were named 2017 All-CCAA selections, as voted on by the 13 head coaches of the conference. Senior goalkeeper Christina Holguin was named to the First Team. Tami Kwong, Vanessa Penuna, Monique Ponce, and Laura Shea all garnered Honorable Mention.

The Gators posted a 10-5-3 overall mark, their third consecutive winning season, and finished 5-4-3 in CCAA play under third-year Head Coach Tracy Hamm.
  Holguin's .922 save percentage and .412 goals against average both led the CCAA. Her save percentage is third in the nation in NCAA Division II and her goals against average is ninth best among all Division II goalkeepers. Her 4.73 saves per game was third best in the CCAA. The Alhambra, California native posted a career-high 15 saves in her final match as a Gator, a 1-0 victory over Sonoma State. She helped preserve the shutout with a save against a penalty kick in the 84th minute. Holguin made 15 starts in goal and posted six shutouts while allowing just six goals all season.
  Kwong, who also earned CCAA Player of the Week and Gator of the Week honors this season, appeared in all 18 matches for the Gators and made nine starts. The Pleasanton, California native was second on the team with five goals and added an assist for 11 points in her rookie campaign. The forward netted three game-winning goals, two of which came in CCAA action.
  Penuna appeared in all 18 matches for the Gators. The Fresno, California native netted three goals and dished out six assists for 12 points, the second-most on the team. Her six assists were the most by CCAA players. The senior midfielder was also named Gator of the Week after scoring the game-winner on a PK in a 1-0 win at Cal State San Marcos. The captain's 1380 minutes were fifth most for the Gators.
  Ponce netted one goal in her freshman campaign, the game-winner at Cal State Dominguez Hills. She also assisted on the game-winner versus Cal State Monterey Bay. The Lakewood, California native appeared in 17 of the Gators' 18 matches and made nine starts. She ranked second among the Gators' freshman with 960 minutes and logged the 12th most on the team.
  Shea, a Second Team selection as a defender last season, made the transition to the attack in 2017, where she led SF State with a team-high seven goals. The San Diego native also had two assists for a team-high 16 points. The captain's two game-winners were tied for fourth-most in CCAA action.
