@SFState_MBB To Participate in the Ron Logsdon Classic This Weekend

SAN FRANCISCO– The SF State Gators will return to action this weekend in Rohnert Park as they will participate in the Ron Logsdon Classic on the campus of Sonoma State.  The Gators will take on Pac West opponents Academy of Art and Dixie State this Friday and Saturday, November 20 and 21.  Tip-off for both games is set for 5:30pm PST at The Wolves Den.

The Gators, under the guidance of head coach Paul Trevor, are coming off a 78-76 overtime win over Pacific Union in their regular season home opener this past Saturday.  SF State had five players in double digits in scoring in Warren Jackson 12, Nick Calcaterra 12, Coley Apsay 11, Treaven Duffy 11 and Floyd Wormley 10.    Besides scoring his 10 points, Wormley also had 7 rebounds, four assists and two blocked shots. 

SF State forced 18 turnovers by the Pioneers including 12 off of steals (three by Apsay and two each by Jackson and Andre Jones).  The Gators also had 18 assists on their 31 made field goals with Brantley Bynum leading the way with six.  With the win this past Saturday, the Gators are now 28-8 at home including 18-6 since 2013-14. 

The Gators will face crosstown foe Academy of Art this Friday, November 21 in the First Round of the Ron Logsdon Classic.  The Urban Knights are 2-0 after defeating Cal State Monterey Bay 75-72 and Sonoma State 57-55 at the CCAA/Pac West Challenge in San Rafael this past weekend. Academy of Art is averaging 66 points per game while giving up 63 points per game.  The Urban Knights are being out-rebounded 36.5 to 30.0 rebounds per game while they are shooting 41.8% from the field including 43.9% from three-point land. 

Jase Harrison leads the way with his 17.0 points per game average while Chris Sales is averaging 16.0 points per game and Herman Pratt is averaging 13.0 points per game.  Sales is leading the team with his 7.0 rebounds per game and 75% shooting from three's.  Harrison is leading the way with his 65% shooting from the field and four steals.

SF State will then face Dixie State this Saturday also at 5:30pm in the Second Round of the Ron Logsdon Classic.  The Storm will first take on Sonoma State on Friday evening at 7:30pm before facing the Gators on Saturday.  Dixie State is currently 1-1 after defeating Concordia (Ore.) 91-56 and losing to Seattle Pacific 80-74 in the tournament the Storm hosted in St. George, Utah, this past weekend. 

Dixie State is averaging 82.5 points per game while giving up 68.0 points per game. The Storm is also out-rebounding their opponents 41.0 to 35.5 while shooting 46% from the field.  They are holding their opponents to just 40% shooting from the field while forcing 34 turnovers in two games.  Trevor Hill leads the way for the Storm with his 17.5 scoring average, 10 assists, four steals and 60% shooting from three-point range.  Also averaging double digits in scoring for Dixie State is Mason Sawyer (15.0 ppg) and Mark Ogden, Jr., (10.0 ppg).  Josh Fuller leads the way for Dixie State with his 9.0 rebounds per game average while Zac Hunter is shooting a team high 54.5 % from the field. 

After this weekend, the Gators will return to the court next week for two games in the city.  SF State will host Holy Names on Tuesday, November 24 at 7pm.  Then on Saturday, November 28, the Gators will travel to Kezar Pavilion to face Academy of Art again at 3pm. 

SF State will then begin CCAA play on Friday, December 4 with its conference opener against Chico State at home.  That game will be Purple Out 2 as the first 500 SF State students in attendance will receive a t-shirt sponsored the SF State Department of Athletic.  Comcast Hometown Network Channel 104 will also be broadcasting the game live.
