@SFState_MBB To Begin New Year with Two-Game Home Stand

Andre Jones and His Gator Teammates Will Host Cal State East Bay this Friday Evening at 7:30pm

SAN FRANCISCO –  The SF State Gators' men's basketball team will return to the hardwood after being off since December 21 with two home games this weekend at SF State's Main Gymnasium at the Don Nasser Family Plaza.  The Gators will begin the New Year this Friday, January 2 with a CCAA contest with Cal State East Bay.  They will then host Cal State Monterey Bay this Saturday, January 3 in another conference contest.  Tip-off for both contests is scheduled for 7:30pm.
 
The Gators are 4-4 overall and 2-2 in the CCAA, which places them in a five-way tie for fifth place with Cal State Monterey Bay, Cal State San Bernardino, UC San Diego and Cal State L.A.  SF State, under the direction of head coach Paul Trevor, is averaging 58.5 points per game while giving up 60.1 points per game.  The Gators are out-rebounding their opponents 28.4 to 26.5 rebounds per game. 
 
SF State currently leads the CCAA with their 60.1 scoring defense, which is also sixth in the nation. 
 
Udun Osakue leads the team with his 11.8 scoring and 4.9 rebounding averages.  He is also shooting a team high 59% from the field while Bren Haley leads the team with his 81.3% shooting from the line and 32 assists.  Derrick Brown is also averaging double digits in scoring with his 10.6 points per game. Andre Jones has recorded a team best 14 steals and AJ Kahlon has blocked a team leading 9 shots.
 
Cal State East Bay is 3-6 overall and 1-3 in the CCAA heading into its non-conference game at Cal State Fullerton this evening.  The Pioneers are in tenth place in the CCAA while averaging 68.6 points per game.  Ryan Okauudbonge is averaging a team high 11.2 points per game while shooting a team best 58% from the field.
 
Cal State Monterey Bay heads into its Friday game at Sonoma State with a 6-4 overall record and a 2-2 record in the CCAA.  The Otters are averaging 74 points per game and are led by Evn Zeller's 17.2 scoring average, 50% shooting from the field, 81% shooting from the line and 43% shooting from three-point land.
 
After this weekend's game, the Gators will begin a four-game road trip beginning on Friday, January 9 at Cal Poly Pomona.
