Wills Preparing For One of Her All-American Jumps
BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—  SF State senior Tiana Wills earned All-American honors as she placed third in the High Jump at the 2013 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Birmingham Crossplex in Birmingham, Alabama, this afternoon.  Wills finished with a jump of 1.76 meters (5-9 ¾).

"Tiana (Wills) finished an incredible indoor season this afternoon," said SF State head coach Terry Burke.  "She did a great job of keeping her focus and earning the All-American honor."

Wills passed on the first jump of 1.60 meters.  She then made her first attempt at 1.65 meters.  The 2012 All-CCAA performer missed on her first attempt at 1.73 meters, but came right back in her second attempt to clear the 1.73 meter mark.  She was one of three jumpers to move on pass 1.76 meters to the 1.79 meters.

At 1.79 meters, Wills cleared the mark on her second attempt to stay alive for the individual title.  Wills did not clear the 1.82 meter mark but Western State's Barbara Szabo and Ashland's Jennifer Foster did as they both moved on to the next height.

Szabo, who passed on the first five heights, cleared the next height of 1.85 meters on her first attempt but Foster did clear the height as the Western State junior claimed the individual title at the High Jump.

In thanks to Wills' third place finish, the Gators finished in a four-way tie for 29th place with Nebraska-Kearney, Hillsdale and American International.

"This was a great week for us in a great environment for a National Championship," added Burke.  "Tiana is now even more hungry for the outdoor season."
