SAN FRANCISCO – The SF State Gators had four players in double digits in scoring to key their 69-65 home conference win over Sonoma State this evening at The Swamp. Will Overton, Jr., paced the Gators (4-2, 2-1 CCAA) with 15 points off the bench while
Calvin Otiono added 14 points, 8 rebounds and 5 rebounds for the victors.
"It was an exciting game this evening and we felt good as we gelled early in the second half," said SF State head coach
Paul Trevor. "We built a 17-point lead mid-way through the second half, but we became undisciplined, but we pulled one out as it is always tough in the CCAA." "
Malik Edwards gave us great minutes off the bench for us tonight also."
James Davis paced the Seawolves (1-6, 0-3 CCAA) with 20 points while Justin Herold added 17 points.
The first half was evenly played with the visitors taking a 28-23 lead with five minutes to go on a three by James Davis.
SF State went on a 13-2 run to take a 36-30 lead into the locker room capped by a
Erik Fearn lay-up.
The Gators increased their lead to 57-40 nine minutes into the second half.
Sonoma State would not give in as the Seawolves kept chipped away at the Gator lead and eventually cut the lead to 67-65 on a three by Jason Walter with just 14 seconds left in the game.
Calvin Otiono sealed the Gator win as he connected on his two attempts from the line to give the hosts the 69-65 win.
SF State will return to the court this Wednesday, December 18 at 7pm, when the Gators take on Washington State in an exhibition game in Kennewick, Wash. They will face Sonoma State again on Sunday, Dec. 22 at 4pm in Rohnert Park.
