McDaniel Sets Two PQ Times; Musika Grabs All-League Honors at CCAA Meet

Keenya McDaniel surpassed a pair of PQ times in the 100 and 200 on Friday at the CCAA Championships.
LOS ANGELES – San Francisco State's Keenya McDaniel posted the top times in the preliminaries of the 100 and 200 meters and Luisa Musika earned all-conference honors with a second-place finish in the shot put to lead the Gator track and field squad during the second session of the 2012 California Collegiate Athletic Association Outdoor Championships Friday at Jesse Owens Track on the campus of Cal State L.A.

McDaniel established a new Gator record in the 100 after crossing the tape in 11.85 seconds to earn a spot in Saturday's final, along with teammate Carrie Thomas, who clocked in with a season-fast 12.30 to place seventh.

Later in the day, McDaniel continued her historic 2012 campaign with a career-best time of 24.33 in the 200, which ranks second on the school's all-time outdoor charts.  With her performances, the SF State sophomore provisionally qualified in both events for the NCAA Division II Championships later this month in Pueblo, Colo.

Musika, meanwhile, came away with the eighth All-CCAA honor of her stellar career after logging a runner-up mark of 41 feet, 11 ¼ inches in the shot put.

The Gators advanced six other competitors to Saturday's final, including defending 800-meter champion Kaylie Belk, who recorded the top time in Friday's preliminaries with a 2:15.58 clocking, while Brionne Baucham joins McDaniel in the 200 after recording a sixth-place time of 24.67, which ranks fifth in school history.

In addition, Maya Cabiness punched her ticket to the finals in both hurdling races, placing sixth in the 400-meter event at 1:03.20, followed by a seventh-place effort of 14.98 in the 100-meter distance, which ranks 10th on SF State's all-time charts.

Alicia Chambers will also vie for all-conference honors on Saturday after finishing sixth in the 400 prelims with a time of 57.32, while Lindsay Enright advanced in the 1,500 after placing eighth at 4:51.32.

Rounding out the Gator highlights was Ruth Le Beau, who provided the Purple and Gold five points after finishing fourth in the long jump with a personal-best leap of 17-09.00, which puts in her in a tie for 10th place on the school's all-time performance list.

After five scored events, SF State finds itself seventh place in the women's team standings with 15 points, trailing host school Cal State L.A. (52 pts.), followed by Chico State (43 pts.), UC San Diego (28 pts.), Cal State Stanislaus (22 pts.), Humboldt State (19 pts.) and Cal Poly Pomona (16 pts.)

The CCAA Championships continue on Saturday for the Gators with the discus throw finals, starting at 11:30 a.m., while the running events are slated to begin at 1 pm.
