ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – San Francisco State's
Keenya McDaniel broke an indoor school record in the triple jump on Saturday to highlight a brief slate of events for the Gator track and field team at the New Mexico Classic inside the Albuquerque Convention Center.
McDaniel recorded an NCAA Division II indoor provisional qualifying mark of 39 feet, 5.75 inches, eclipsing
Dominique Knowles' school standard of 38-11.75 set just last year at the University of Washington Indoor Preview. The SF State sophomore also qualified for the finals of the 60-meter dash, where she placed ninth overall with a time of 7.74 seconds.
“Keenya continued with her outstanding start to the 2012 season,” said Gator head coach Terry Burke. “Today was her first triple jump competition since high school and she attained a provisional qualifying mark on her very first attempt. Then on her sixth and final leap, she finished with a distance that currently puts her at No. 5 in Division II.”
SF State returns to action next weekend when it competes in a pair of meets at the University of Washington. The Gators will participate in the Husky Classic on Saturday, Feb. 11, followed by an appearance in the Husky Open on Sunday, Feb. 12.
