SACRAMENTO – SF State's women's soccer was recognized by both the State of California's House of Representatives and the Senate this past Monday, April 4. The Gators' had a Resolution in their name recognizing their outstanding season this past Fall.
“It was a great honor for our program, SF State University, and the California Collegiate Athletic Association for us to be recognized by our State Senators and Representatives,” said SF State Head Coach
Jack Hyde.
SF State captured the institution's first ever California College Athletic Association (CCAA) championships this past October in Turlock, Calif. The Gators, under the direction of head coach
Jack Hyde, defeated then No. 25 Cal State LA by a 3-2 shootout in the championship match.
Carly Bliss was named the tournament's Most Valuable Offensive Player was
Annicia Jones was named the Most Valuable Defensive Player.
Myriah Johnson,
Michelle Spinner, and
Nicole Smith were all named to the All-Tournament Team.
"Yesterday afternoon was a lot of fun and it was neat to be recognized by our state's respresentatives and senators," said SF State junior
Andrea Carey. "This just showed that all the hard work we put in the preseason and during the season paid off."
The Gators finished their season with an 11-5-5 overall record and received a bid to the 2010 NCAA Division II National Women's Soccer Championships.
