SAN FRANCISCO--- SF State’s head women’s basketball coach Joaquin Wallace participated in the Achieving Coaching Excellence (ACE) professional development program for ethnic minority basketball coaches that took place June 15-18 in Indianapolis. Wallace was one of 24 minority elite coaches in both men and women’s basketball that were selected to participate in the ACE program.
“I was truly honored to be selected as one of the 24 minority elite coaches in both men and women’s basketball,” said Coach Wallace. “I met friends for life and gained valuable experience to prepare me for the next phase of my coaching career--- this truly a once in a lifetime experience,” added Wallace. “In closing, I would like thank the Black Coaches Association (BCA), the NCAA, and Dr. Michael J. Simpson in supporting me for this venue.”
The program is administered by the Black Coaches and Administrators Association and is supported by the NCAA. The program is designed to enhance a select group of ethnic minority assistant basketball coaches to become the next generation of collegiate head basketball coaches through areas of leadership, communications, campus relations, media training, and program management.
The professional development opportunity began in 2003 and 90 coaches have completed the program, with 31 having been elevated to a head coaching position.
