SAN FRANCISCO San Francisco State University Director of Athletics Dr. Michael J. Simpson announced the hiring Thursday of Paul Trevor as coach of the Gator men's basketball program. Trevor joins the SF State staff after serving eight seasons as an assistant at fellow California Collegiate Athletic Association member Cal State San Bernardino, including the last six as associate head coach.

Paul Trevor is an accomplished coach who will be an integral part of our athletic department,” Simpson said. “He is a great fit for our program; his extensive background in the CCAA and California State University system will be a tremendous asset.

“Paul is also an outstanding teacher of basketball skill and technique with an infectious enthusiasm that will enhance the learning and playing experience of the student-athletes under his tutelage.”

During Trevor's tenure at CSUSB, the Coyotes compiled an impressive 170-61 overall record (.742 pct.) and a stellar 135-35 mark (.844 pct.) in the highly competitive CCAA, including five regular-season conference championships and seven NCAA Division II regional appearances. In addition, Trevor was part of a staff that produced 25 All-CCAA honorees, two conference player-of-the-year recipients and one league newcomer-of-the-year award winner.

“I am very excited to be the next head basketball coach at San Francisco State,” Trevor said. “Hopefully I can build on the foundation that (former coach) Bill Treseler has established here. We have a great core of returning players whom I believe can help us contend in the CCAA.”

In 2006-07, Trevor helped CSUSB fashion one of its finest seasons in school history as the Coyotes posted a 26-6 overall record, capturing the NCAA Division II West Regional crown and advancing to the semifinals of the national championships.

In addition to his sideline duties at CSUSB, Trevor was responsible as associate head coach in overseeing player academic progress, monitoring of compliance with NCAA regulations, recruiting and managing the Coyotes' basketball camp.

Prior to his stint at CSUSB, Trevor served as an assistant for one year at the University of San Francisco where he also directed the Phil Mathews summer basketball camps. Before joining the Dons' staff, Trevor coached for six years as the top assistant at his alma mater, Sonoma State University, from 1995-2001.

During the 1998-99 season, SSU notched its first-ever 20-win campaign, finishing with a 20-7 record and a 16-6 mark in its CCAA debut as the Cossacks (now Seawolves) received a bid to the NCAA Division II West Regional Championships for the first time in 10 years.

Trevor received a bachelor's degree in sociology in 1998 and is currently pursuing a master's degree in sport management from the University of San Francisco.

A native of Fairfax, Calif., Trevor is married to the former Cari Lyn Johnson. The Trevors have one daughter, Emma Kate.
