CHARLOTTE, N.C. – San Francisco State’s Tyler Dalbey (Petaluma, Calif., Santa Rosa JC) finished in 14th place during the preliminaries of the 400-meter hurdles on Thursday at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships at the Irwin Belk Complex on the campus of Johnson C. Smith University.
Dalbey crossed the finish line with a time of 1 minute, 1.97 seconds, placing fifth in the second heat and 14th overall. However, the Gator senior was unable to advance as the top eight runners qualify for Saturday’s final. UC San Diego’s Christine Merrill posted the fastest time of the preliminary race, clocking in at 58.65, followed by Chrystal Ruiz (58.79) and Aisha Adams (58.94), both of Angelo State.
Dalbey closes out her SF State career as the school-record holder in the 400 hurdles (1:00.93), set at UC Berkeley’s Brutus Hamilton Invitational on April 23. She also captured All-California Collegiate Athletic Association honors after a second-place performance at the conference meet on May 8.
“Tyler had a great season,” said Gator head coach Terry Burke. “She came here as a walk-on and blossomed into a national championship qualifier. Hopefully, her development as an athlete through hard work and dedication will serve as an inspiration for those who follow in our program.”
SF State's other national qualifier, sophomore Luisa Musika (Milpitas, Calif., Milpitas HS), will compete in the discus throw on Saturday, May 29, beginning at 1:30 p.m. PT (4:30 ET). Musika garnered All-America accolades as a freshman in 2009 after placing sixth at the national championships in the same event. Live results can be accessed at
