SAN FRANCISCO – San Francisco State starting pitcher Pat Haugen (Cayucos, California, Cuesta College) added to his growing list of postseason awards on Tuesday when he was named to the Rawlings/American Baseball Coaches Association 2010 NCAA Division II Gold Glove Team. The Gator senior received his second Gold Glove honor this week after his selection by the ABCA as the West Region's best fielding pitcher in NCAA Division II.
In addition, Haugen previously garnered first-team All-California Collegiate Athletic Association honors to go along with a trio of NCAA Division II All-West Region accolades by Daktronics, Inc., the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) and the ABCA.
During the 2010 campaign, Haugen logged a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage in 19 appearances, recording 21 assists, three put-outs and no errors.
On the mound, Haugen figured prominently in SF State's success this past season, leading the CCAA with a single-season school record of 114 strikeouts in 92.1 innings pitched. The Cayucos, Calif., native also paced the squad with an 8-4 record and a 2.53 earned run average, which ranked fourth in the league. In addition, Haugen finished 10th in the CCAA by limiting opponents to a .250 batting average.
Haugen struck out a career-high 10 batters in four different contests and also pitched two complete-game shutouts at home against Oregon Tech (Feb. 14) and Sonoma State (April 10). In addition, Haugen recorded his first two career saves at Cal Poly Pomona (March 12) and at then-No. 8 Chico State (March 27).
Haugen's long list of achievements this past season also included his selection as SF State's 2009-10 Male Athlete of the Year, which was announced at the Gators' Student-Athlete Banquet on May 4.
Under the tutelage of first-year head coach Mike Cummins, SF State finished with a 22-32 overall record in 2010, its highest victory total since 2006.
