COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – San Francisco State’s Markham Bertron (San Jose, Calif., West Valley College) and Ian Wrenn (Truckee, Calif., Marion Military Institute) were named to the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference All-Academic wrestling team, the league office announced on Wednesday. Bertron was a first-team selection, while Wrenn earned second-team distinction.

The Gator duo also garnered All-Academic accolades by the NCAA Division II Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) in March as Bertron landed on the second team, while Wrenn received honorable mention.

Bertron, a kinesiology major from San Jose, Calif., competed in the 174-pound weight class for most of the season before wrestling at 165 in the NCAA Division II Super Regional 4/RMAC Championships. He finished his two-year career at SF State with a 14-22 record and six pins, including a 4-7 mark and a pair of pins during the 2009-10 campaign.
Ian Wrenn
Ian Wrenn was a second-team All-Academic RMAC honoree following his final season as a Gator.

Wrenn, meanwhile, is a history major, who transferred to SF State after spending two years at Marion Military Institute in Alabama. The Truckee, Calif., native posted two victories in the 157-pound weight class at the Menlo College Invitational last January and started eight of the Gators’ 14 dual meets at 165. Wrenn also finished the year with 30 escapes, which ranked seventh on the squad.

To qualify for the Academic All-RMAC team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.30 cumulative grade-point average on a 4.0 scale prior to the start of the wrestling season. He must also be a starter or a key reserve and have completed two consecutive semesters or three quarters at his current institution.
