INDIANAPOLIS--- In the NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Statistics Report that was released this morning, the SF State men's basketball team is ranked in the top ten in field goal percentage defense and scoring defense. The Gators are sixth in field goal percentage defense (37.9%) and ninth in scoring defense (59.0 ppg). They are also 24th in three-point field goal percentage defense (29.4%).
SF State is currently 13-8 overall and 6-7 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) and in seventh place.
Lincoln Memorial currently leads the nation with its 35.4% field goal percentage defense while Clark Atlanta is only allowing 52.3 points per game to lead the nation. Clark Atlanta also leads the nation with its 24.5% three-point field goal percentage defense.
In the CCAA statistics report that was released this morning, six Gators are in the top 25 in nine categories. Junior guard
Marquel Hoskins (Beloit, Wisconsin, Reedley College) leads the conference with his 42 steals and is third in assists (83), fifth in scoring (14.2 ppg), and eighth in assist/turnover ratio (+1.5), 12
th in field goal percentage (49.5%), and 17
th in rebounding (5.1 rpg).
Phoenix O'Rourke (San Mateo, California, Junipero Serra)is also in the top 30 in steals (35), three-point field goals made (39), and 26
th in scoring (9.1 ppg).
Nefi Perdomo (Oakland, California, Skyline ) is 15
th with his 34.4% shooting from three-point land and 24
th with his 9.4 scoring average while
Tim Pratt (Eureka, California, College of the Redwoods)is 11
th with his 50.3% shooting from the field and 22
nd with his 9.7 points per game average. Senior post player
Derek Fletcher (San Jose, California, Branham) has blocked 20 shots this season, which places him fifth in the CCAA.
Two Gators have moved up in the top ten career lists at SF State in four categories. O'Rourke is 6th with his 93 three-point field goals made and fifth with his 300 three-point field goals attempted while Fletcher is second with 64 blocked shots and 7th in rebounds with 457.
SF State is also in the top five in the CCAA in eight team statistical categories. The Gators are second in scoring defense, field goal percentage defense, and three-point field goal percentage defense. They are also third in scoring margin and steals while they are fourth in turnover margin and fifth in field goal percentage and assists.
The Gators will continue their four-game road trip this weekend for a pair of conference games in Northern California. SF State will travel to Arcata this Thursday, February 4 for a 7:30pm scheduled tip-off with Humboldt State. Then on Saturday, the Gators will travel to Rohnert Park for a 7:30pm scheduled contest with Sonoma State.
