SEATTLE – The San Francisco State women's track and field squad kicked off its 2010 schedule on Saturday when it traveled to the Pacific Northwest for the University of Washington's Indoor Preview at Dempsey Stadium. Among the Gator highlights was a first-place performance by the quartet of Alicia Chambers (Roseville, Calif., Oakmont HS), Carrie Thomas (Fremont, Calif., Milpitas HS), Samantha Eggert (Lincoln, Calif., Del Oro HS) and Stefeny Butler (San Jose, Calif., Mt. Pleasant HS), who combined to win their heat in the 4x400 relay with a time of 4 minutes, 1.78 seconds.
“I was very pleased with our effort,” said SF State head coach Terry Burke. “We have a very young team and we posted some good marks today. It was a great way to start the season against some tough competition and I'm excited to see our progress in upcoming meets.”
Chambers was also the lone Division II runner to qualify for the finals of the 60-meter dash where she placed fifth with a time of 7.85.
In addition, the Gators received a pair of second-place finishes from Eggert in the 200 (26.78) and Tyler Dalbey (Petaluma, Calif., Petaluma HS, Santa Rosa JC) in the 400 (1:01.56), while Lindsay Machado (Placerville, Calif., El Dorado HS) (shot put, 36-06.75) and Deirdra Bridgett (Oxnard, Calif., Santa Clara HS) (weight throw, 41-06.00) each took third in their respective sections.
Rounding out the running events was Butler, who clocked in at 27.67 to finish fourth in the 400, while in the high jump; Felicia Terwilliger (Eureka, Calif., Warwick (R.I.) West HS) (5-04.25) and Meagen Moiola (Morro Bay, Calif., Morro Bay HS) (5-02.25) tied for ninth and 13th, respectively.
SF State returns to action next Saturday, Jan. 23, when it heads to Albuquerque, N.M., for the Cherry and Silver Indoor, hosted by the University of New Mexico.
