Musika Wins Shot Put as Three More Gators Capture All-CCAA Honors

Luisa Musika claimed the shot put crown at the CCAA Championships on Saturday.

CHICO, Calif.Freshmen Luisa Musika (Milpitas, Calif., Milpitas HS), Meagen Moiola (Morro Bay, Calif., Morro Bay HS) and Alicia Chambers (Roseville, Calif., Oakmont HS) each earned All-Conference honors on Saturday as San Francisco State wrapped up competition at the 2009 California Collegiate Athletic Association Outdoor Track and Field Championships at University Stadium in Chico, Calif.

Musika captured the individual title in the shot put with a winning toss of 43 feet, 7.75 inches, Moiola placed second in the high jump with a height of 5-3.25, while Chambers took third in the 100 meters with a time of 12.23 seconds as the top three finishers in each individual event receive All-Conference accolades.  The trio joins senior Sheila Cleland (Union City, Calif., Redwood Christian HS, Chabot College), who placed third in the hammer throw on Friday, to give SF State four All-CCAA honorees at this year's championships.

“I'm really proud of the way we competed given the rainy conditions the past couple of days,” said Gator head coach Terry Burke.  “We went up against some more experienced teams, but our youth really came through.  This gives us a great foundation for the future.”

Additional contributors to SF State's point total included Felicia Terwilliger (Eureka, Calif., West Warwick (R.I.)), who tied for fourth in the high jump with a height of 4-11.50, Dalbey, who placed sixth in the 400 hurdles at 1:04.82, while Thomas finished seventh in both the 100 (12.65) and (25.80).

As a team, the Gators ended the meet in sixth place with 57.50 points, besting Cal State Stanislaus (49 pts.) and Cal State Dominguez Hills (34 pts.).  UC San Diego (247.5) easily outdistanced Cal State LA (164 pts.) to capture the title, while host school Chico State (142 pts.), Humboldt State (62 pts.) and Cal Poly Pomona (61.5 pts.) rounded out the top five.
