Gator Women's Basketball Signs Deer Valley HS Standout

SF State Head Women's Basketball Coach Has Announced the Signing of Desiree Azlin To A NLI
San Francisco, Calif.--- SF State head women's basketball coach Joaquin Wallace has announced the signing of Deseree Azlin to a National Letter of Intent. Azlin is the daughter of Steve and Delores Azlin of Antioch.
“Desiree (Azlin) is a quality person who is a winner and has played in one of the most Girls' respected Division I high school programs in the state of California,” said SF State Head Women's Basketball Coach Joaquin Wallace. “Therefore, her opportunity to play against the best and most heralded high school players has provided her with the foundation necessary to play within the Division II game at SF State,” added Wallace.
Azlin is a 5-9 forward who will graduate from Deer Valley High School this Spring. She is a two-time First Team All-Bay Valley Athletic League. She also was nominated this past season to play in the McDonald's All-American Game.
“Desiree is an exceptional player for her size around the rim who posses athleticism and physical play, while having an innate inability to score in bunches against bigger players,” said Deer Valley High School Head Coach Lindsey Wisley.
The newest member to the 2009-10 Gators women's basketball team averaged 9.4 points and 7.2 rebounds per game while recording 22 steals and shooting 48% from the field. She also was a member of the Contra Costa Times All-Star Game as a member of the East Team that was played at Diablo Valley College.
“She (Desiree) has shown the ability to compete against the best with her tireless work ethic and desire to become a better basketball player each and every practice and game,” added Wallace. “Furthermore, I am excited to have a quality homegrown student-athlete from a well respective program to wear the purple and gold for the next four years,” noted Wallace. “I fully anticipate Desiree to compete as a freshman, while steadily improving her skill set over the next four years.”
SF State finished the 2008-09 season with a 14-14 overall record and an 8-12 California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) record. The Gators finished tied for sixth place in the CCAA and received a bid to the 2008-09 CCAA Basketball Championships for the second year in a row. This was the first time in over 20 years that the Gators had back to back non-losing seasons.
