SAN FRANCISCO – San Francisco State head softball coach Cristina Byrne announced the signing Thursday of five high school seniors to National Letters of Intent. The five student-athletes will enroll at SF State in August 2010 and will be eligible to compete for the Gators in time for the 2011 campaign.
The five future Gators include
Kylie Grabowski,
Lauren Maslak, Kelsey Murkami, Jenna Robertson and
Jordan Stanaland.
Grabowski is a catcher who hails from Long Beach and currently attends Lakewood High, while Maslak was recruited as an outfielder/catcher and is enrolled at nearby Santa Clara High. Murkami is also a Bay Area product who plays both shortstop and second base at Berkeley High, while Robertson is another middle infielder from San Martin who competes for Live Oak High in Morgan Hill. Rounding out the 2011 early signees is the lone pitcher of the group, Jordan Stanaland, who hails from Marysville and will graduate from Lindhurst High in the spring.
“The Gator softball team is excited to welcome these five student-athletes to the SF State softball program next year,” coach Byrne said. “Not only do we feel like we are getting five great players, but we are also getting five great family members.
“Throughout the recruiting process this year, assistant coach Nikki Palmer and I have been looking to sign impact players who have the work ethic and high academic standards that will make them successful at this level. We truly feel like these five young ladies will live up to those expectations and we look forward to working with them next fall.”
SF State will kick off their 2010 season on Friday, Feb. 5, when they square off against Humboldt State and Chico State during the opening day of the Mizuno Best of the West Tournament in Turlock, Calif.
