SAN FRANCISCO – San Francisco State women's soccer defender Carly Bliss (San Diego, California, Ranch Bernardo)and midfielder Myriah Johnson (Lakewood, Washington, Clover Park) were named to the 2009 National Soccer Coaches Athletic Association (NSCAA)/NCAA Division II All-Far West Region team. Bliss was named to the Second Team while Johnson was a Third Team selection.
The award is the second career regional honor for Bliss, who also garnered second team All-California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) accolades on Nov. 5 and then on Nov. 17 was named to the Daktronics/NCAA Division II All-Far West Region team. This is Johnson's second post-season honor that she has earned this season earlier this Fall, she was selected to the All-CCAA Honorable Mention Team.
A native of San Diego, Calif., Bliss started in 19 of SF State's 20 matches in 2009, leading the team with 1,949 minutes played while anchoring a backline that yielded just 0.92 goals per game and posted seven shutouts. She also finished second on the squad with four goals and tied for fourth with 13 shots on goal.
A native of Lakewood, Wash., Johnson started in all 20 of the Gators' matches this past season. She tied for the team lead in assists with four with Nicole Vanni (Manteca, California, Sierra ). Johnson also had three goals of which two were game-winners.
SF State, under the guidance of head coach Jack Hyde, compiled an 8-8-4 overall record in 2009, including a 6-7-3 mark in conference play, which tied Sonoma State for second place in the CCAA North Division.
